When I worked at a heritage museum one summer, a woman brought in a family keepsake - a hair book from the daughter of the founder of the town. It was common then to give locks of your hair to family and friends as keepsakes. Most of the locks in the book were woven into intricate little designs almost like doilies. It was such a curious thing to see.
